Transport for London’s cycle hire scheme

We’re loving the new London cycle hire scheme; Notary Basil has joined the scheme as a member and soon will be receiving extra keys for of the rest of the team – they can’t wait!

A scheme allowing people to pick up and drop off hire bicycles across London launched in July 2010. The Cycle Hire Scheme provides 6,000 bikes which can be found at around 400 docking stations in the zone one travel area, including at least 138 in Westminster. List of docking stations

Now, to hire a bike, you don’t have to be a signed-up scheme member. You can pay an access fee – by debit or credit card – at the docking station and cycle away. Available 24 hours a day, all year round. It's self-service and there's no booking. Just turn up and go!

Membership or casual use? To become a Member of Barclays Cycle Hire, you need to be at least 18 years of age and have a UK postal address which matches your billing address. Hire costs are the same for members and for 'casual' users however for occasional users and visitors to London, the pay-as-you-go option is best value.

If you would like a friend or colleague to ride with you from time to time, you can purchase an extra key (up to 4) this saves time when accessing a bike.

Costs
Costs are the same whether you're a Member or not, though. You pay for the right to hire a cycle (access fee) and for the amount of time you've got it (usage charge). The first 30 minutes are FREE! More about costs.

There is a docking station just around the corner from Notary Co UK’s office; ideal if you work nearby and need to see the notary or drop off papers! And your journey could be FREE as members get the first half hour at no extra cost.
