Certificate of Naturalisation


Naturalisation is the legal process where a person changes their nationality. A Certificate of Naturalisation is evidence that this process has taken place.

A Certificate of Naturalisation will contain the following information
- Full name of applicant
- Residence/address of applicant
- Birthplace
- Age/date of birth
- Parents names
- Name of spouse if married
- Occupation
- Children along with their names and ages


Process

The process for naturalisation in Britain can vary. From application it can take up to four weeks to receive confirmation, and up to a further six months for a decision to be made. Once granted the applicant will also be able to apply for a British passport.


Application

Persons can apply for naturalisation if they are 18 years or older, do not have a serious or recent criminal record, have been granted indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK or have permanent residence in the UK, have not broken any immigration laws or conditions whilst in the UK, and have satisfied the English Language requirements and passed the Life in the UK test.

It is important to that the applicant checks with their country of origin that they are allowed to hold both British citizenship and citizenship of that country, as some do not permit this. The UK does allow applicants to have hold than one nationality.
